Murcia nightclub where 13 died in a fire was open without a licence
Only four of the deceased have been positively identified by their fingerprints so far and one person is still missing

Murcia city council has revealed, in a joint press conference between the old and new government teams, that the nightclubs in which 13 people died in a horrendous fire in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 1, had remained open despite being ordered to close in January 2022.
The premises of the nightclub Teatre, which is located in the same building as the Fonda Milagros which also burned down, were apparently handed a “sealing order” last year with which they failed to comply.
As such, Murcia City Council plans to sue the company.
“We are going to act as a private prosecutor against the company Teatre for having failed to comply with the cease and desist orders, we are going to act with forcefulness in order to determine all responsibilities,” said Antonio Navarro, Deputy Mayor of the City Council.
So far, 13 people have been confirmed dead and 24 injured. Of the 13 people who died in the fire, at the present moment only four have been identified by their fingerprints.
Five people were declared missing after yesterday’s blaze, but four of them have now been found safe and well. Only one person unaccounted for last night remains to be located.
Across the Region of Murcia, towns and villages have declared minutes of silence and are flying their flags at half-mast outside the town halls. Municipalities such as Caravaca, where some of the deceased were from, joined places like Lorca and Molina in the tribute to the victims.
In the Regional Assembly of the Murcia government, flags will fly at half-mast until Wednesday October 4.
