ARCHIVED - Murcia bar and restaurant terraces allowed to keep extra space granted during Covid for another year
Hospitality establishments in Murcia can keep extra tables and chairs in parking spaces until the end of 2023
At the height of the coronavirus pandemic in the Region, the local authorities allowed bars, restaurants and cafes in Murcia to extend their outdoor terraces into adjoining parking spots and other public spaces. This was to facilitate social distancing and to enable businesses with limited indoor room to continue trading.
On Monday November 21, the Plenary Commission on Infrastructure, Finance, Economic Management and General Affairs granted an extension to hospitality venues, who will be able to use the extra outdoor space throughout 2023, with the option of a further extension the year after.
Originally, the authorisation for these terraces was granted until December 31 of 2021 and then lengthened until the end of 2022.
Owners will now be allowed to place tables and chairs in parking areas for another year, as long as they don’t interfere with traffic or pedestrian access.
