As Alhama de Murcia prepares for its annual Semana Santa processions there is great anticipation among the faithful as they prepare to witness the first appearance of a new sculpted tableau entitled “La Lanzada”, which represents the moment when a Roman soldier’s lance pierced the flesh of Jesus as he hung on the cross.
The new tableau has been created by sculptor Galo Conesa, who also fashioned the “Siete Palabras”, and both will be paraded in the evening of Saturday April 8.
Prior to that, though, at 11.00 on March 25 both tableaux will be carried from the headquarters of the brotherhood known locally as the Paso Morado to the church of San Lázaro, where the new sculpture will be blessed. The route is as follows: Calle Fuente Blanca, Calle Colón, Avenida Sierra Espuña, Avenida Constantino López, Avenida de la Constitución, Avenida Juan Carlos I, Calle La Feria, San Lázaro Obispo.
