Mar 2-4 Repsol Guide Suns 2024 set to showcase best of Spanish cuisine in Cartagena
Hundreds of world-class chefs will descend on the Murcia city over the weekend
Foodies and gourmet enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Repsol Guide Suns weekend 2024 takes centre stage in Cartagena for the first time ever. The city will play host to the best restaurants in the country, showcasing the rich flavours and culinary talents of Spanish cuisine.
From March 2 to 4, locals and visitors alike will have the opportunity to indulge in the finest gastronomy that Spain has to offer. The weekend will feature a variety of activities, including cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and interactive workshops, all designed to give attendees a unique insight into the world of Spanish food and drink.
The festivities will kick off on Friday March 2 with the opening ceremony. This will be followed by a series of cooking demonstrations and workshops led by renowned chefs from across Spain. On Saturday March 3 the city of Murcia will join in the celebrations, hosting a range of gastronomic events and activities.
The highlight of the weekend will be the 2024 Soles Gala, which will take place on Monday March 4 at the El Batel Auditorium and Congress Palace in Cartagena. This prestigious event will bring together the crème de la crème of the Spanish culinary world, recognising the achievements of the best restaurants and chefs in the country.
Here’s what you can expect over the weekend:
Saturday March 2
The city of Cartagena will come alive with the excitement of the Repsol Guide Suns 2024. The historic centre will be adorned with lanterns featuring the image of the Suns, and a massive 3.5-metre sun will be erected, complete with extras dressed as chefs handing out balloons and shopping bags.
To add to the festivity, a 360° platform will be set up for attendees to record fun videos and share them on social media. The port esplanade will also host a gastronomic exhibition, offering tastings, workshops, talks and more throughout the weekend.
Additionally, establishments recognized with a Sol, Solete or Recommended by the Repsol Guide will offer special tasting menus.
Sunday March 3
The city of Murcia will host 'Tapas with the Suns.' Beginning at aperitif time, three renowned chefs - Susi Díaz ('La Finca de Susi'), Lucía Freitas ('A Tafona'), and Alberto Chicote ('Omeraki') - will take turns standing behind the bars of several popular venues in the city.
This initiative, held in collaboration with Estrella Levante, will see Chicote at Bar Verónicas (Solete Guía Repsol) starting at 1.30pm, followed by Lucía Freitas at the Gran Rhin Bar (Solete Repsol Guide) and Susi Díaz at the Hispano Bar (Recommended Repsol Guide). For a mere four euros, inclusive of beer, these celebrated chefs will create delicious tapas for attendees to enjoy.
Monday March 4
On Monday, Cartagena will welcome more than 200 chefs and gastronomic community representatives from across the country.
The Region of Murcia has a total of 46 restaurants with a gastronomic rating in the Repsol Guide: 1 with Tres Soles, 1 with Dos Soles, 18 with One Sol and 26 Recommended.
