ARCHIVED - Lorca City Council commemorates Constitution Day 2022 with emotive readings
The celebration of the country’s constitution was marked in the Murcia municipality with a series of readings and speeches

The City of Lorca commemorated Constitution Day in Spain with an institutional act in which various articles of the Magna Carta were read out.
The Magna Carta – Spain’s Constitution – is the legal framework that has granted Spain the greatest period of democracy, peace and coexistence in the history of the country and this December 6 marks 44 years since it was approved.
The Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, the Deputy Mayor, Francisco Morales, members of the Municipal Corporation and representatives of associations and entities of the municipality all participated in the institutional act marking Constitution Day.
Mayor Mateos explained that “today we are commemorating a very important day for all Spaniards, Constitution Day. It is everyone’s document, a document in which we all have a place, in which we are all represented and where we can all express our ideas and opinions.”
He went on to say that “we all defend the Constitution; we all defend the fact that, within the established limits, there is room for different ideologies and, therefore, from the City Council of Lorca, we want to make this small act of recognition and tribute on a day of celebration for all Spaniards.
“This is an act in which all the people of Lorca stand on the side of the Constitution, of our Magna Carta and our fundamental legal framework as a society and as a country.”
In his closing statements, the Mayor said he wanted to “thank the participation of all those attending the event, Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure; national deputy, deputy mayor, members of the Corporation, Security Forces, representatives of associations and entities of the municipality and the children of the Alfonso X El Sabio School.”
