Katy Perry under investigation in Spain over music video shoot
The singer is in trouble with the environmental agency for filming on protected dunes in the Balearic Islands
Pop superstar Katy Perry is making headlines again, and this time it's not just for her catchy tunes. The singer has found herself in hot water with the Balearic Islands Department of Natural Environment after her recent music video shoot on the islands.
The investigation revolves around Perry's latest music video 'Lifetimes', which was filmed on the idyllic islands of Ibiza and Formentera. While the video showcases the singer dancing and jumping across stunning locations, including central Ibiza and a bustling nightclub, it's the natural settings that have caught the attention of authorities.
According to the local authorities, Perry and her crew ventured into the protected islet of S'Espalmador, part of the Parc Natural de Ses Salines in Formentera, without the necessary permits.
The department has clarified that this is not a full-blown environmental crime, but an infraction, as they can grant permission for filming in such areas. However, Perry's production company failed to request authorisation, which has now sparked an investigation to determine any potential environmental impact.
S'Espalmador is a private islet located north of the island of Formentera and has been part of the Ses Salines Natural Park of Ibiza and Formentera since 1980. It is approximately 2.9 kilometres long and 800 metres wide (137 hectares). It's a UNESCO World Heritage nature reserve and highly valuable ecologically because of its biodiverse land and rich marine habitats.
The singer is not the only celebrity to be charmed by the beauty of the Balearics. Actor Will Smith also took advantage of his recent stay to record his latest song and shared a reel on Instagram, titled 'Ibiza Sunset Vibes', showing him rapping and enjoying the sunset with friends.
