Military traditions and associations run extremely deep in the city of Cartagena and a wide range of activities and events are being held between June 1 and June 4 to celebrate Armed Forces Day.
The culmination of the events will be the solemn hoisting of the national flag on Sunday June 4 in the port of Cartagena at 21.15, in the presence of a Mixed Honours Company comprising members of the Spanish army, navy, air force and space division as week as the Guardia Civil, the band of the Tercio de Levante, the drummers of the 73rd Anti-Aircraft Regiment and others. The national anthem will be played before the troops return to the Arsenal.
Other events over the weekend include the following:
Saturday June 3
11.00 to 18.00: Exhibition of equipment used by the armed forces alongside the cruise ship terminal including minesweeping troops, military divers, parachute divisions and others. An information point will be open alongside.
10.30, 12.00, 17.00, 18.30: Guided visits at the Arsenal and the Submarine base, with three groups of up to 70 people at each time specified.
10.00 to 14.00: Visits at the Museo Naval.
9.30 to 13.30: Open doors morning at the Servicios Generales building in Muralla del Mar, including a chance to see the interior of the recently restored Doric patio.
