The Town Council is working on an action plan to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2023
A citizen participation workshop has been held in Jumilla to draw up the Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy, to adapt the municipality to the effects of CO2 emissions and fight against energy poverty.The Town Council of Jumilla, through its Department of Environment, is already working on reducing CO2 emissions by 2023. To this end, it has begun to develop the Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES) included in the framework of the European initiative Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.Related story: Jumilla farmers save money while improving energy efficiencyThis action plan aims to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% and to adapt the municipality to the inevitable effects of this and to fight against energy poverty. Jumilla Town Council has already drawn up an inventory of emissions, in order to know which sectors have a higher energy consumption and produce the most emissions, as well as an analysis of the main risks and climate vulnerabilities of the municipality.That’s why, last Thursday September 7, a citizen participation workshop was held with the presence of technicians from the Town Council of Jumilla, in addition to Mayor Seve González, the Councillor for the Environment, Antonio Pérez, the spokespersons of the political groups represented in the consistory and other members of the municipal corporation. The councillor for the Environment said that “it was a very fruitful day, with very good attendance and participation”.
This participatory workshop for the realisation of the PACES has been developed by the technicians of Environment and Urbanism in cooperation with EuroVértice, which assists in this work through the European project OwnYorSECAP, involving 44 municipalities in 11 different countries, including Jumilla, to address the development of this action plan in the most optimal way.For more local news, events and visiting information go to the home page of Jumilla TodayImage: Ayuntamiento de Jumilla
