The great Scandinavian pianist is joined in San Javier by the new Grammy-winning vocal jazz sensation

THE NIELS LAN DOKY TRIO

Niels Lan Doky has been described by critics as “the best pianist of his generation” (Hiroki Sugita) and “the maestro of Scandinavian jazz” (Stéphane Koechlin), and he is generally recognized as being one of the most influential keyboard performers of the last 45 years.

He is the most convincing successor in Europe to the line of Bill Evans and as formation leader has 39 albums to his name as well as countless collaborations with other jazz greats and film-makers. He returns to San Javier for the 25^th edition of the festival with his Danish trio.

SAMARA JOY

At the age of just 23 Samara Joy is already at the peak of her profession, having been the leading representative of jazz at the 2023 Grammy Awards, where she won the trophy for “Best New Artist”. Her second album “Linger Awhile” also took the award for “Best Jazz Vocal Album”.

As the granddaughter of the founders of the Philadelphia gospel group The Savettes and the daughter of a professional bass player, she has music in her blood, and she is already being hailed as the great vocal jazz star of her generation: some have even spoken of her taking on the baton passed down by Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald.

The 13^th concert in the 2023 San Javier Jazz Festival begins at 22.00 in the open-air Auditorio Municipal in Parque Almansa with tickets priced at 25 euros. Season tickets are also available: for bookings and further information click here.
