Irishman arrested in Alicante after cannabis haul found in suitcase bound for Liverpool
Security officers discovered 18kg of cannabis worth €200,000 in his luggage before he could board the flight
An Irishman, 36, has been arrested in Spain after attempting to smuggle 18 kilograms of cannabis, valued at approximately €200,000, onto a Ryanair flight from Alicante to Liverpool.The incident occurred when airport security staff detected the drugs during a routine X-ray scan of his suitcase. The man was apprehended at the boarding gate just as he was about to board the plane.
Upon inspection, the suitcase was found to contain vacuum-sealed bags filled with cannabis.
Following his arrest, the individual was released by a judge in Elche, on bail under strict conditions, which reportedly include a travel ban and a requirement to sign in at court every two weeks.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether he was travelling alone or with anyone else.
