Irish tourists clash with Marbella police over Airbnb music volume

Two 29-year-old Irish tourists face serious consequences after a heated exchange with Costa del Sol law enforcement turned violent in Marbella last month.

The altercation began when the pair repeatedly ignored neighbours’ complaints regarding excessive noise levels from their holiday flat along Avenida de Las Mimosas in the early morning hours of April 26.

Frustrated residents contacted the 092 Local Police hotline multiple times requesting assistance, reporting that despite asking the guests to lower the volume, their pleas fell on deaf ears. Upon arriving at the scene, officers confirmed that the noise level coming from the Airbnb was unacceptable and knocked on the door.

However, tension quickly mounted when one of the male tourists refused to show the officers his passport or rental agreement, insisting that they were on holiday and planned to continue partying into the night.

Moments later, his buddy appeared in the hall and tried to shut the door in their faces, but one of the officers stuck his foot in the way. Eventually, the first Irishman agreed to get his documentation but as he turned to leave, the second reveller surprised the police by lunging at them and punching one officer, before slamming the door shut.

At this point, the authorities called for back-up and three more officers arrived and again tried to plead with the young men to be reasonable and turn the volume down. The tourist who had already assaulted one agent violently wrenched the door open and again tried to attack the police.

He was forcefully restrained while the second joined the fray, and two agents ended up with injuries. Both were arrested on the spot and will now face charges.
