IBI property tax in Corvera, Hacienda Riquelme and El Valle Golf Resort is about to go up
Homeowners in the municipality of Murcia will have to pay higher property taxes this year

The Ayuntamiento de Murcia will raise IBI property taxes for this year in the whole municipal area, which includes the districts of Sucina, Corvera and the urbanisations El Valle Golf Resort, Corvera Golf and Hacienda Riquelme, among others.
The IBI (Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles) is a land value tax in Spain that is managed by local councils and which must be paid annually by the owners of any real estate property.
The IBI register for Murcia continues to grow, with the City Council expecting to collect almost €10 million more than last year.
Murcia City Council has confirmed that the IBI has risen by 3.4%, and the number of tax receipts has increased by 2,126 compared to 2023. This growth translates to a forecasted total revenue of €126.7 million for the 2024 tax year, up from €117 million last year.
Residents in areas controlled by the Ayuntamiento de Murcia, including the districts of Corvera and the urbanisations El Valle Golf Resort, Corvera Golf and Hacienda Riquelme, will be impacted by this rise. The IBI tax is scheduled for collection on May 1.
Over the past five years, the IBI register has grown steadily. In 2020, there were 361,102 receipts, and this year the figure has climbed to 367,013. The trend shows not only a higher tax rate but also a continuous expansion of the tax base as more properties are developed or reactivated.
The increase is partially linked to the new cadastral valuation introduced in 2019 by the General Directorate of Cadastre. This valuation increase is being phased in gradually until 2028, meaning homeowners will continue to see incremental rises over the next few years.
City councillor for Mobility and Economic Management, José Francisco Muñoz, explained that the increase in municipal tax revenue reflects the orderly and constant growth of the municipality. He attributes this to rising population figures and the recovery of previously unused properties.
Despite the rises, the Ayuntamiento continues to apply allowances and exemptions. In 2024, nearly €7 million in discounts and exemptions were granted, an increase of almost €1.5 million compared to 2020. Large families, those living in social housing, cultural properties and properties used for job-creating economic activities are among those who benefit.
