ARCHIVED - Huge fire burns down caravans at Bolnuevo campsite
Nobody was seriously injured but several people have needed to be rehoused in other caravans

A large fire burnt down part of the Bolnuevo campsite in Mazarrón this week. A fire that started in a caravan ended up reducing an entire block of caravans to ashes, and three people had to be treated for anxiety attacks.
The fire was first detected at around 1.40am on Tuesday February 14, according to the sources, but the cause of the fire is still being investigated. Initial investigations point to a faulty gas cooker as the culprit. The flames spread rapidly to other vehicles, and were apparently so high they could be seen from miles away.
Fourteen firefighters turned up in six fire engines from three different fire stations in Mazarrón, Lorca and Alhama de Murcia, all a part of the Consortium of Fire Fighting and Rescue of the Region of Murcia (CEIS), and worked together to finish extinguishing the flames early this morning.

Medical staff from the Red Cross were on hand but thankfully, no one was seriously injured. Those whose caravans and homes were destroyed or who had to be evacuated for their own safety have been rehoused in other caravans and bungalows nearby in the campsite’s own facilities, says sources from the emergency services.
This is by no means the first fire at a campsite in the Region of Murcia in recent times. Just over a year ago an electricity generator sparked a caravan fire in Los Alcázares and more recently, the Villas Caravaning site in La Manga had its operating licence suspended for a lack of fire safety measures after a man died in a caravan fire there last April.
