A new food alert has been issued by the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), an organisation which is attached to the government’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs, which has ordered the withdrawal from the market of a well-known oat drink sold in supermarkets in Spain.

 

The reason for the recall is due to the presence of unlabelled gluten in the BiotoBio brand “gluten-free” oat drink. The agency is asking people with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance not to consume this product.

 

The alert has been located by the health authorities of Catalonia, who have transferred the warning through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI). According to the AESAN, the distribution of the affected product is “wide” and covers the entire national territory.

 

 

This information has been transmitted through SCIRI, so that “the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels can be verified”.

 

AESAN recommends that, as a precautionary measure, people with gluten-related problems should refrain from consuming this product.

 

“The consumption of this product does not entail any risk for the rest of the population,” they have clarified.
