Gill's story: From Peter Pan to Pinocchio's Gepetto in Murcia
Gill Brown is a member of the ADAPT Theatre Group in San Pedro del Pinatar. Here she tells her story
“After 35 years of nursing, I came to Spain to retire and slow down. However, after being press ganged by friends into attending a rehearsal just to see how it worked... I was hooked, and life has become anything but slow.“I have found myself doing so many unexpected things, like making scenery, costumes and props and I’m always amazed at how innovative the group is with ideas and sourcing materials. I feel a real purpose in memorising the script and delight in the opportunity to learn and practise my lines in Spanish.“My family is convinced I’m an up and coming superstar in Spain and who am I to disillusion them? The icing on the cake is knowing that our group of amateur actors are helping raise funds to support local school children and families in need here.”This year’s panto, which is performed in both English and Spanish, is ‘Snow White and the 7 Guiris’ to be performed at the end of November (more details to follow soon).ADAPT Theatre Group is sponsored by the ADAPT Metal Detecting group and all money raised goes to local charities. To find out more about the Adapt Theatre Group visit www.adapttheatregroup.com or phone Eric on 0034 656 361 098

LoadingAdapt Theatre Group started out in 2010 as part of the ADAPT association (Asociación de Angloparlantes de San Pedro del Pinatar - Association of English Speakers of San Pedro del Pinatar). The aims have always been in line with those of ADAPT, namely the integration of the English speaking community in the town and from the start the work of the association was accessible to both English and Spanish speaking communities, helping to involve the local community as much as possible. In 2011, ADAPT produced its first bilingual pantomime, Cinderella, and since then has gone on to perform a total of 10 pantomimes, involving a whole variety of well-known residents, people from further afield, and local places. Dance groups have been made up of students from English classes in local schools. At the end of 2021, ADAPT association disbanded and the ADAPT Theatre Group was born as an independent entity. The main aim is to continue performing for the local community, to continue to work for integration and to give back what we can to the town, that has become home to the groupNew members are always welcome, both actors and people who can help back-stage with props, scenery and costumes, so please get in touch if you are interested in joining in.Pantomime rehearsals start mid- to late August and take place every Wednesday morning at 9.30am in San Pedro. There are also occasional Saturday morning rehearsals for some roles.During the final week, in either late November or early December, rehearsals are almost every day, and there is a dress rehearsal culminating in 3 or 4 shows at the end of the week. For more information and a chance to watch some of the pantomimes, please go to the ADAPT Theatre Group website.Contact Murcia Today: Editorial 000 000 000 / Office 000 000 000
