The conference on road safety was given by Cartagena firefighters and other groups, and aimed to tackle dangerous driving situations
The Public Safety School of the City of Cartagena (ESPAC) held a road safety training last Friday, April 19, at
La Manga Club for British and foreign residents in the area.
More than 100 people attended the talk, which was carried out with the collaboration of the community of owners of La Manga Club, the N332 Association and firefighters from Bomberos Cartagena.
The day began with a presentation by the president of the owners’ association of La Manga Club, Andrew Millard, followed by the director of ESPAC, Manuel Asensio, and the head of the Cartagena Fire Department, Francisco Gómez.
On major focus of the conference was small electric vehicles and golf buggies, which La Manga Club residents and visitors to the resort report to be one of the biggest problems they face in terms of driving safety.
The talk also highlighted the dangers of drinking alcohol or taking drugs before driving, in an exercise that demonstrated through experience how the ability to concentrate and function is diminished, as some of the participants put on simulator glasses that mimic the effects of alcohol consumption, drugs and fatigue.
To end the day, the Cartagena fire brigade carried out a demonstration of what to do in the event of a traffic accident where someone is injured, showing the alarming effects of a head-on collision.
