ARCHIVED - Failure of proposal to revoke Council Parks & Gardens service contract including Camposol

Mazarrón Council Pleno meeting overturns proposal to revoke the contract costing over 5 million euros after nearly a year in the tender process

The proposal to revoke the Parks & Gardens service contract was debated for over an hour in an Extraordinary Pleno meeting of Mazarrón council on Tuesday morning, after it was put forward by the Mazarrón PP party, currently in opposition.

After a sometimes heated and testy debate the vote was taken and with the 8 opposition councillors present (PP 6, Ciudadanos 1, Vox 1) voting in favour of revocation the motion failed following the 10 votes cast against by the incumbent council (PSOE 5, UIDM 5). The contract can now, barring any further challenges or delays, be awarded.

The 5.5-million-euro service contract, which covers the whole of the municipality, includes more public areas in the Camposol urbanisation and was put out to tender in December 2021, but a series of technical and legal difficulties have delayed the tendering procedure. It was even suspended at one point, however at a Council contracting meeting in November a tender was approved from around a dozen put forward by various companies. The new contract will start the day after it is signed.

In the contract put out to tender, Mazarrón Council has expanded the green areas in Camposol to be included. The contract titled “Contratación del Servicio de limpieza, conservación y mantenimiento de zonas verdes públicas y arbolado urbano” (Contract for the Cleaning, Conservation and Maintenance Service of public green areas and urban trees) lasts for 4 years with an estimated value of 4.7 million euros (5.6 million after tax), and the possibility of a 1-year extension.
