Police confirm the Swiss-Italian couple died from gunshot wounds, and are treating it as a gender-motivated crime

A 65-year-old Swiss man and a 64-year-old Italian woman have been found shot dead in a house in the Andalusia town of La Línea de la Concepción, just across the border from Gibraltar.

The bodies were discovered after a neighbour heard gunshots and phoned the police at around 5.30pm on Tuesday January 31 in a house located on Calle Narcisos in the private gated urbanisation La Alcaidesa, in the north of the Cadiz municipality, near to Sotogrande.

According to police sources, the deceased were an expat couple living on the seaside resort, and they are currently working on the hypotheses that the man shot his partner and then killed himself.

Thus, it is being treated as a case of gender violence, not dissimilar to the stabbing to death of an elderly British woman by her husband on the Costa del Sol last November or the alleged murder of another British woman on Murcia’s Camposol urbanisation in December.

The mayor of La Línea, Juan Franco, said, “We are shocked by the news of two deaths in an alleged case of gender violence in our town.”

“We are awaiting confirmation, because the investigation is open, but everything points to it being a case of gender violence.”

“We join the pain of the family,” he added. This Wednesday, the town hall will observe a minute’s silence at noon in repudiation of the alleged homicide.
