Domingo Valdivieso Art competition finds three worthy winners
Hajar El Llamdoui, Ángela Cañas Castillo and María Sánchez Moreno win the prizes of the 'Domingo Valdivieso' drawing and painting competition
The legacy of the great painter from Mazarrón lives on in the new generation of artists from Mazarrón
The Casa de Cultura in Mazarrón has hosted the awards ceremony of the second Domingo Valdivieso Painting Competition under the theme 'Painting the sea'. This contest, organised by the IES Domingo Valdivieso secondary school in collaboration with the Mazarrón Council Department of Culture and Education, has shone for the quality and creativity of the works presented.
The first prize was awarded to Hajar El Llamdoui, from IES Antonio Hellín, a student in the second year of high school, for her exceptional work that captures the essence of the sea with a unique perspective. Ángela Cañas Castillo, from IES Domingo Valdivieso and a third-year ESO student, won second place, while the third prize went to María Sánchez Moreno, also from IES Antonio Hellín and Hajar's classmate in the second year of high school (see gallery below).
The judging panel, composed of José María López Ballesta, director of the Popular University of Mazarrón, and the renowned local painter Blas Miras, had the difficult task of selecting the winners from an outstanding group of finalists that included students from various educational levels, demonstrating the wide range of talent among the young artists of the municipality.
The awards were presented by the Councillor for Education and Youth, Silvia García; the Councillor for Culture, Jorge Durán; the director of IES Domingo Valdivieso, Salvador Sánchez; and the Drawing teacher, Elena Marín. The rest of the participants also received a diploma in recognition.
This contest not only seeks to pay tribute to the figure of the painter Domingo Valdivieso, but also to highlight the value of the artistic and cultural heritage of Mazarrón. In addition, it focuses on promoting creativity and artistic expression among students, emphasising the importance of artistic teachings beyond the academic setting.
