In recent years, the tradition of Halloween, with its quintessential trick-or-treating, has been growing steadily in popularity in Spain. While it may not be as big of a celebration as in the UK or the US, many Spanish communities have embraced the custom, especially among the English-speaking expat community and those who are eager to take part in the festive spirit.

 

Trick or treating, one of the mainstays of Halloween, involves dressing up in spooky or creative costumes and going door to door to collect sweets and treats. In Spain, you’ll find children and even adults donning costumes that range from the classic (witches and ghosts) to pop culture characters. Trick-or-treating has gained popularity as a fun way for kids and families to engage in the holiday spirit.

 

However, it’s worth noting that not every household in Spain participates in this tradition. While some are happy to hand out candy to eager trick-or-treaters, others may not be as prepared for this American import. As a result, it’s not unusual to find homes without any sweets to offer children on Halloween night. Some people still prefer to observe this time of year as a way to pay respects to the dead on the November 1 Catholic holiday of All Saints. Remember to be considerate and respect the choices of those households that may not be as enthusiastic about the holiday.

 

The trend of trick-or-treating has indeed made its way to Spain, with an increasing number of people embracing this festive tradition, even though it may not reach the grand scale of Halloween celebrations found in the UK or the US.
