ARCHIVED - Construction work starts on new Camposol private hospital
After the land was cleared and the project was announced construction work starts in earnest on new hospital
Camposol residents will have noticed a new feature has appeared on the urbanisation skyline, that of the high rise tower crane erected to facilitate the construction of the new 38-bed private hospital.
Rumours about a hospital started to circulate when clearance work took place on land near the Farmacia on Sector A and the private hospital which was officially announced by the Mederi Salud Group on June 14, It will be equipped with 38 beds, three operating theatres and six surgeries, as well as a 24-hour emergency service and will offer more than 40 specialties and health services, from general medicine, surgery, nursing, cardiology, pneumology, gynaecology, dermatology, paediatrics and geriatrics, among others. radio diagnostic equipment -Tac, Ultrasound, X-rays, Magnetic Resonance laboratory. The facility is expected to be open by mid-2024.
The announcement sparked some controversy with the lobby group for Mazarrón public healthcare provision, PLASMA (Plataforma por la Salud en Mazarrón) questioning why a public hospital had not been provided between Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón by the relevant authorities after many years of pressure from the lobby group, although it must be pointed out that the new hospital is a privately funded enterprise by a company which has over 10 years’ experience on the Camposol urbanisation.
It is also the case that with the new hospital's proximity to the RM-3 motorway junction means it will have easy connections with municipalities such as Alhama, Totana, Fuente Álamo, Librilla, Lorca, Águilas, Cartagena and the north-east of the province of Almería.
While the hospital costing a projected 11 million euros will be designated for private patients it is not unusual for the regional health authority to refer treatment under the regional healthcare provision to private hospitals where demand and waiting lists for certain procedures are excessive.
