ARCHIVED - Cliff-diving tourist who died on Spanish island revealed as former Dutch footballer
Vitesse player Mourad Lamrabatte plunged to his death from a cliff in Spain’s Mallorca
The Dutch tourist who tragically lost his life after trying to perform a daredevil cliff jump stunt on the Malgrats Islands in Mallorca on Thursday May 12 has been named as 31-year-old former Dutch football player, Mourad Lamrabatte.
Mr Lamrabatte lived in the town of Santa Ponsam, near Magaluf and had reportedly rented a boat with his partner and two children on the day of his death to sail out to the small island opposite the resort of Santa Ponsa.
The former SBV Vitesse player scaled the 30-metre-high cliff and plunged off, but smashed into the rocks below before tumbling into the sea. The shocking ordeal was filmed by his partner, who can be heard screaming “Oh my God” as Mr Lamrabatte hits the outcrop.
Warning: Some viewers may find the following footage distressing

The sportsman’s girlfriend and children all witnessed the tragic event, but authorities have yet to question the traumatised woman.
A post mortem has revealed that Mr Lamrabatte was still alive and semi-conscious when he hit the water, and died from drowning rather than the impact of his fall.
Mr Lamrabatt’s former club SBV Vitesse, one of the oldest professional football clubs in the Netherlands’ top league football called the Eredivisie, offered condolences to his family and friends.
The club said in a statement: “Vitesse has received the sad news that Murad Lamrabatte has tragically passed away.
“The Former striker just turned 31 years old. He wore the club’s colours in the 2010/2011 season when he was part of the U23 team that won the U23 Cup that season.
“In July 2010, he scored in a match for the first team.” A spokesman for the club added: “Vitesse wishes strength to Murad’s family and friends to cope with their great loss.”
The so-called ‘tombstone’ is a stunt whereby people throw themselves from a height, feet-first, into the water, and is yet another worry for the Spanish island’s authorities, who have already warned against the dangers of balconing and the hefty fines that will accompany drunken and risky behaviour this summer.
On the same day as Mr Lamrabatt’s tragic accident, a British tourist died after plunging from the seventh-floor balcony of his hotel.
