ARCHIVED - Busiest car park in Benidorm back under direct management: these are the cheaper parking rates
General prices have been cut by 10 cents and there are other discounts for users of the Benidorm's L'Aigüera car park

After almost three decades of private management, the most widely-used car park in Benidorm is back in the hands of the local council as of Thursday February 2, with significant benefits for residents and visitors to the town centre.
Although L'Aigüera car park, located under the Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España, is once again under municipal management and all parking fees will go to the council coffers, it will be operated and maintained by outside company, EYSA, for the grand sum of 655,000 euros a year.
However, the most important news for motorists is that parking prices have been slashed and there are discounts for registered residents.
The implementation of the new operating system will be introduced "progressively and provisionally from February 2 until September 30", during which time all the technological equipment and automatic databases will be updated, among other things.
New L'Aigüera parking prices
Benidorm Council has approved a new ordinance to regulate the public price of this car park, number 44, which states that the general amount will be 0.317 euros per minute and 1.90 euros per hour, with a maximum amount per day of 38 euros.
This means the hourly rate is reduced from the current 2 euros to 1.90 euros, for all users in general. However, the ordinance provides for certain bonuses for citizens registered in Benidorm. Holders of a Resident sticker will have be eligible for a 36.9% discount, meaning the price per minute will be 0.020 euros;1.20 euros per hour. In this case, the maximum amount per day will be 28.80 euros.
On a provisional basis, and until the new equipment is installed and the automatic databases are updated, the Resident A sticker database will be used, so there will be no need to carry out any extra lengthy procedures to benefit from the discounts.
Paying guests at hotels, hostels, B&Bs and tourist flats in the centre of Benidorm will benefit from a 21.14%, paying 0.025 per minute and an hourly rate of 1.50 euros. The maximum amount for a full day parking will be 36 euros.
Under the new management, the bonus of one hour free parking on presentation of a receipt from shops, bars, restaurants, etc. in the centre of Benidorm will also be maintained.
The Town Hall assured in a statement: "Commercial and catering establishments in the central area will receive free one-hour parking tickets to be given to customers who have spent 20 euros or more, and 100 vouchers will be given out per establishment, with a six-month expiry date".
However, until the new equipment is installed and the tickets are distributed, "the discount will be given on presentation of the ticket or invoice at the car park offices".
