British travellers drive Alicante Airport's five month record streak
The number of international visitors to Alicante grew by 7.5% in May

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport has shattered another traffic milestone, welcoming 1,850,620 passengers in May and extending its remarkable streak to five consecutive months of record-breaking numbers this year.
The latest figures show a 5.8% surge in travellers versus May 2024, when the previous record was set, Aena sources announced on Thursday June 12.
The Costa Blanca hub isn't celebrating alone. The Region of Murcia International Airport has also enjoyed strong growth, attracting nearly 300,000 passengers during the opening five months of 2025. Corvera Airport, as it's commonly known, logged 293,838 passengers from January through May, delivering a steady 3.2% boost over the corresponding period last year.
Back on the Costa Blanca, overseas travel remains the powerhouse behind Alicante's success, with international passenger numbers climbing 7.5% this May compared to 2024, reaching 1,624,664 travellers.
Domestic traffic was quite disappointing though, dropping 5% to just 224,623 passengers.
The UK still dominates international arrivals, bringing 637,443 visitors to Alicante in May, comfortably ahead of Germany (112,760), the Netherlands (111,597), Belgium (88,876) and France (87,450).
The airport's operational capacity also hit new heights, processing 11,697 flight movements throughout May, another monthly record representing a 6.2% jump from May 2024.
Looking at the year so far, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport has processed 7,282,785 passengers between January and May, marking a substantial 10.9% increase over 2024's opening period, alongside 46,681 aircraft operations - up 11.5%.
