Body of expat woman, 21, found dumped on Costa del Sol street
The Norwegian girl had only been living in Torremolinos, Malaga for a year
The lifeless body of a young woman discovered in Torremolinos on Wednesday September 13 has been identified as a 21-year-old Norwegian citizen who had only been resident in Spain for a year when she died.
She has been named as Anne Mathea Morken, a student originally from the Norway town of Ringebu, near Lillehammer. She was identified through her fingerprints earlier this week in collaboration with the Norwegian authorities and the community director of Anne’s home town confirmed her identity. The family of the deceased have been notified and her body will soon be repatriated.
The young woman was discovered by a group of youths on Calle Ronda Alta in Benyamina shortly after 1am. She was found lying in the street without any identification and her empty bag was discarded nearly. Her body showed signs of asphyxiation and emergency workers pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators are still waiting for the results of the post mortem and a toxicology report and have thus far refused to comment on the possible cause of death, insisting instead that they have not ruled out any hypothesis.
The Norwegian Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos) is liaising with the Spanish police on the investigation and the Malaga Violent Crimes Unit of the National Police is understood to be examining CCTV footage from a beauty salon located in Palyamar, close to where Anne’s body was found.
During the 2021-2022 school year, the deceased was studying to be a personal trainer at the Norwegian private school ‘Active Education’ and the first semester took place in Fuengirola, about twenty minutes north-east of Torremolinos.
“We remember Anne Mathea as a bubbly and happy girl who was well liked by both teachers and fellow students, and it hurts to think that she is no longer with us,” the school director said.
After her year at Active Education, Anne got a job in the customer services department of Sector Alarm in Fuengirola.
