ARCHIVED - Aguilas Football Museum: celebrating the history of football in Spain for over 25 years
The long-running Museo del Fútbol Aguileño has secured funds to continue its great work for another 3 years

The mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, and the president of the Centenary Association and the Águilas Football Museum, Pedro Morata, have signed the renewal of the collaboration agreement between the two organisations for a period of four years (2022-2025 both included), extendable to another four (2026-2029).
After the signing, Mayor Moreno stressed that “this agreement, which dates back to 1998 and is still in force, is a clear demonstration of the interest of the Council of Águilas in maintaining and preserving the historical heritage of football in Águilas.”
For his part, the president of the Asociación Centenario del Fútbol Aguileño centenary association assured that “we feel very proud to keep alive a Museum where feelings, objects and memories of thousands of families whose ancestors played for Águilas CF are collected.”
He continued: “Football is one of the marks that form part of the history and identity of our wonderful Águilas. I must declare that the Museum is what it is because it has an enormous protector and personal benefactor in the form of our vice-president, Antonio de la Rosa. I thank him on behalf of the Aguileños and also my thanks to the successive mayors who have protected and collaborated with this Museum.”
The Águilas Football Centenary Association was formed in 1996 and inaugurated the Museo del Fútbol Aguileño, a place that recalls the 126 years of history of football in the municipality. Along with Huelva and Bilbao, Águilas was actually one of the main entry points for football in Spain.
The Águilas Football Museum is officially approved by the Royal Spanish Football Federation and contains objects of great historical and sentimental value for many families from Águilas, whose forebears played for Águilas CF and who have donated photographs, shirts, boots and memorabilia to the Museum for exhibition and safekeeping.
The Águilas Football Centenary Association has kept the Museum open on a non-profit basis since 1996 and has been constantly updating it for the last 26 years. Antonio de la Rosa, vice-president of the Centenary Association, is responsible for the management of the Museum, which belongs to the Águilas Museum network.
Águilas also boasts the football pitch El Rubial, which preserves the original location of the oldest playing field in all of Spain.
The funds donated to the Museum by the Town Hall go entirely to cover the costs of the premises, located at Calle Armando Muñoz Calero, 22 (a street, incidentally, that is named after the Águilas native and president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (1947-1950) and vice-president of Atlético de Madrid).
- Museum opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 5pm to 8pm.
