April 18 Free guided walk on the Tres Bahías Blue Trail in Aguilas

A 2-hour walk on the environmentally friendly route along the seafront of Águilas town centre

April 18 Free guided walk on the Tres Bahías Blue Trail in AguilasThe network of “Senderos Azules” is an initiative promoted in Spain by ADEAC, the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education, to recognize and promote sustainable and environmentally friendly walking paths, this contributing to the enjoyment and preservation of nature and ethnographic heritage.

April 18 Free guided walk on the Tres Bahías Blue Trail in AguilasThe “Tres Bahías” (Three Bays) route in Águilas has been named as one of these routes, and this guided walk on Saturday 18th April along a section of the route begins at 11.00 outside the Auditorio Infanta Doña Elena. It is classified as being of only moderate difficulty and is expected to last approximately 2 and a half hours including the return from the castle to the starting point (on this return leg there are no stops for explanations).

April 18 Free guided walk on the Tres Bahías Blue Trail in AguilasAlong the way, participants will see many elements of the railway heritage of Águilas, including the bridge over the Rambla de las Culebras, the tunnels and iron ore deposits dug into the mountainside and the iconic loading jetty of El Hornillo and the surrounding area, which is one of outstanding and spectacular beauty. The track bed has now been converted into a short greenway, or "Vía Verde".

This group of sites provides a unique opportunity in Spain to appreciate how British engineering in the late 19th and early 20th centuries helped to bring a coastal town into the industrial age, uniting the welath of mineral resources of the area with the sea and converting Águilas into a major industrial port.

The tour is free of charge but online registration is required here. Naturally, appropriate walking footwear and plenty of drinking water are strongly recommended.

For more local events, news and visiting information contact the tourist office of Águilas (telephone 968 493285) or go to the home page of Águilas Today.

Oficina de Turismo de Águilas

Aguilas Tourist OfficeÁguilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)

Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.

The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
