App-solutely amazing! Corvera, Mosa Trajectum and Baños y Mendigo to have on-demand bus service
The buses will connect 10 rural districts with Murcia city, bringing on-demand public transport to almost 10,000 more people
Buses on demand sounds like a dream, and according to Murcia City Council, it’s about to become a reality with the new app MUB. Ten small towns and hamlets that are classified as rural districts in Murcia are about to get a serious public transport upgrade.
This new app is part of a new mobility plan, which aims to make it easier for residents in more isolated areas to get around without relying on a car. According to the plan, residents in these areas will be able to travel wherever they need, with flexible routes that connect them to the city centre, hospitals, universities and industrial zones.
Nearly 9,736 people will benefit from this new service, including 4,531 residents who didn’t have access to public transport before. The towns to be included in this new service are as follows: Baños and Mendigo, Los Martínez del Puerto, Lobosillo, Valladolises, Corvera, Carrascoy-La Murta, Barqueros, Cañada Hermosa, Sangonera la Seca and Sangonera la Verde. This is great news for residents in urbanisations and resorts like Corvera Golf and Country Club, El Valle Golf Resort, Mosa Trajectum, Altaona Golf Resort and many more.
How the on-demand MUB app works
Let's have a look at how this will work. There are no fixed schedules; instead, residents can request a bus within their sector or to a nearby bus stop that links to regular buses, trams or tranvibus. Booking is said to be easy using the MUB app, the website, text message or even a QR code at the stop. You will then receive a confirmation, and your wait time shouldn’t be more than 15 minutes.
Murcia has divided the service into four sectors, each with a bus stop or a hub that connects to other transport options.
For the first time, buses, trams, tranvibuses and local parking will be linked under one card or app. You can check schedules, routes and fares all in one place. You will also be able to switch between modes of transport and even make free transfers. With this new transport plan, fares will be standardised across all the different sectors.
Helping residents to make the most of it
Murcia City Council will provide maps, guides, videos and even meetings to help explain the new system. The idea is to help everyone feel less isolated and more connected, especially to hospitals like Arrixaca and Reina Sofía.
While the new MUB app and mobility plan have officially been announced, they are not quite ready to roll out yet. They will be launched alongside the campaign information.
