Aguilas ready to light massive bonfires for the Night of San Juan
Everything is ready for the lighting of the bonfires in Águilas tonight

On the Eve of San Juan, which is celebrated late at night on the day before the Catholic Feast of San Juan on June 24, Spaniards traditionally welcome the start of summer by watching fireworks displays and lighting bonfires on the beach.
An estimated 4,000 people took part last year in the burning of the bonfire in Calle Murcia in the picturesque coastal town of Águilas on June 23, 2022, and this year the authorities are expecting just as many if not more people to turn out for the Noche de San Juan celebrations this Friday night, now that all Covid restrictions have been lifted.
The streets Calle de la Prosperidad and Calle de la Solidaridad in Águilas will be closed to traffic in the sections adjacent to the site where the bonfires are located.

The Calle de los Hermanos Buitrago street will also be closed off in the Urbanización Los Jardines community, where the residents have also erected a large bonfire.
According to Águilas’s Councillor for Citizen Participation, Elena Casado, “At 10.30pm the bonfire in Los Jardines will be lit and at 11pm the one in Las Majadas.”
Other parts of the municipality will also host these traditional bonfires (although smaller in size) which, after several years of not happening due to multiple factors, have now been restored with the support of the Department of Citizen Participation.
