Restoration work on the Alhama de Murcia castle, which started in 2021, has just been completed.
Alhama Castle is one of the most emblematic structures in the municipality and has been classed as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) since 1985. The fortification was built in the second half of the 10th century and was occupied between the 11th and 16th centuries.
This Monday, September 30, Alhama’s Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Ginés José Muñoz , together with the municipal auditor, Francisco Riquelme, made the last inspection of the restoration work of the Alhama Castle.
The visit came just before its formal reception by the company in charge of the fifth and final stage of the works.
The Alhama de Murcia Town Council prompted the intervention of restoration work three years ago in order to preserve and enhance one of the main historical symbols of the municipality.
The castle, whose historical and cultural importance is indisputable, has been the subject of careful rehabilitation to guarantee its conservation.
The town council will now receive a subsidy of 50,000 euros from the Regional Government. This money is intended to continue with the restoration work on the Castle in future phases of the project.
This contribution represents an important support for the work of the council in its commitment to the protection of local historical heritage.
