A third of Murcia towns still lack updated urban plans adapted to climate change

16 out of 45 municipalities in the Region have out-of-date planning to address environmental challenges

More than a third of municipalities in the Region of Murcia still do not have urban development plans adapted to current environmental and climate change regulations that have been updated in the last 25 years. Despite years of discussion and the pressing need to address sustainability, 16 out of 45 towns in the region are yet to update their planning frameworks since the millennium.

Urban planning serves as the foundational blueprint guiding the development and organisation of urban spaces. The regional government has recognised this pressing issue and is advocating for municipalities to expedite the updating of their urban plans.
