The National Police in Málaga have dismantled a sophisticated operation dedicated to prostitution, human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Through operation ‘Calvo’, 27 people, including the alleged leader, have been arrested and 14 victims, including one minor, were rescued. A search of the properties turned up 8,720 euros in cash, 173.96 grams of cocaine, 211 grams of hashish, 5.58 grams of marijuana and several implements used for dispensing drugs.

 

The investigation began back in June 2020 when information led officers in Málaga to a brothel in the Teatinos area of the city. There they discovered several women, most of them foreigners and without legal residency in Spain, who were relentlessly forced to take drugs and work in the sex trade. The establishment also sold drugs to clients, many of whom later reported having been scammed by the suspects through fraudulent charges on their credit cards.

 

The investigation had to be reactivated in the middle of 2021 when officers became suspicious that a minor was being prostituted by local criminals, and they discovered that the original leader of the gang has resumed the operation once he was released from prison. The ring leader told officers that the mother of the child had consented to her exploitation.
