4-star Hotel Occidental Mar Menor in Los Urrutias, closed during lockdown, to reopen this month

The Barceló Hotel Group intends to reopen the four-star Occidental Mar Menor hotel in the second half of this month, a hotel establishment located in Los Urrutias owned by Grupo Fuertes and inaugurated in 2019 under the name of La Perla de Levante but which has been closed since March 2020 due to Covid.

Located on the shores of the Mar Menor, on Calle Río de Avilés, the Occidental Mar Menor hotel has accommodation space for 400 guests in 150 rooms, all of which have a small terrace balcony with views of the pool and the Mar Menor lagoon.

It cost around 15 million euros to refurbish and open back in 2019, but has lain closed and gathering dust for the best part of three years.

Now, its doors are opening once again. Bookings can be made on the website for June 15 onwards, with half-board and all-inclusive options.

It has three outdoor swimming pools: one for adults, one for children and an Olympic-sized swimming pool, while dining is provided by a buffet restaurant and food trucks.

On the beach near the hotel, Grupo Fuertes wants to put in a ‘floating pontoon’, a kind of temporary jetty that will allow people to swim in the water while avoid the muddy and not very attractive part of the shoreline.

Just last week, Ona Hotels & Apartments announced it had added the Mar Menor Golf Resort complex in Torre Pacheco to its portfolio of hotels it manages.
